DigitalMemoriesDJ.com Music Requests

DigitalMemoriesDJ.com based in London, On is always updating the music library. Thanks to the 2 services that we use, we are able to get you the latest in music added to our library almost as soon as it’s released. Once we have received the latest music, it’s transfered to our online music search. Right now we have over 15,000 songs to choose from. All of these songs are brought to our events.

Prior to any event we allow both you and your guests to choose any songs from our existing library or add your own custom songs that we will aquire for you! To give our potential clients an idea of how the music search / request function operates we include a link directly to the Requests page.

Finding your favourite song is as easy as entering a partial song title or artist. Our clients are then able to choose the Green Add button for songs that we Must play at the event, the Yellow button for possible options and everyone’s favorite, the Red Button for Do Not Play.

If you have iTunes installed on your computer there is a good chance that you can listen to a song before adding it to your list. At anytime our clients can go back and change any requests or add new songs.

CDJA

DigitalMemoriesDJ.com is a proud member of the Canadian Disc Jockey Association. As a DJ there are numerous benefits to being a member of the CDJA. Everything from lower operating costs associated with Licencing and Insurance to greater exposure by being included on their website. Personally though, I would say that the most important reason for us to be part of the CDJA is that it gives our clients greater security and the knowledge that we are a legitimate business and legally we have everything covered.

Whether it’s wedding planning or planning any type of event that requires music, a lot of effort and money goes into hiring a DJ. It’s important to know who you’re hiring and having that knowledge beforehand that they are reliable!

After the cut, the CDJA has a list of 20 essential questions that you should ask any potential DJ. It is important to have the majority of these questions answered so that you can have peace of mind before signing any contract!

Deciding on a DJ

It’s been a while since DigitalMemoriesDJ.com has posted an article on how to find a DJ that best fits your musical needs. I’ve found a very in depth article that will guide your through everything you may or may not know about Disc Jockey’s. The music at any event can make it very special or make people remember your party for the wrong reasons. No one wants to see this happen, so it’s important to ask the right questions and to be informed about how your potential DJ runs his or her business.

GETTING STARTED

Choosing a Disc Jockey and or Master of Ceremonies for your wedding reception, private party, or corporate event is one of the most important decisions you will have to make to ensure the events success. Unfortunately it can also be one of the most confusing and frustrating experiences also. Everything else can be perfect but if the music and host aren’t first rate your party can fizzle. There are approximately 20,000 DJ’s in America, all promising to do a great job at your party. So how do you choose? The best and easiest way of locating the right music host is to hire those you’ve already seen. If you didn’t get the name of the entertainer ask the host or manager of the facility in which the event was held. If you haven’t seen a good entertainer lately, ask you friends. They probably have about the same taste in music as you and perhaps have been at an event you missed. Let them know ahead of time and ask them to keep their eyes open for you.

Avoiding Wedding Scams

Here are at DigitalMemoriesDJ.com we feel that being open and honest in our business practices is most important thing we can do as DJ’s. Whether that’s with the insuring and licencing of our equipment and music or showing up an event at the agreed time. As clients ourselves over many years this is one aspect of DJ’ing that we felt very strongly about and is one of the primary keys to our business plan. Unfortunately there are still a few DJ’s out there who give all of us a bad name.  I’m sure all of us know of at least one instance where the DJ didn’t show on time, or at all, or a completely different DJ showed up. Here at Digital Memories we guarantee we’re at an event at least an hour in advance and that the DJ you speak and agree to hire is the one that will be at your event. BridalTips.com has an example of this type of scam and the best way to avoid it. Everyone wants their Wedding day or special event to go off without a hitch, so it’s definitely in your best interest to take a quick moment and make sure you get what you’re paying for!

How the scam works: You meet with your wedding DJ who happens to be the owner and agree to hire him for your wedding, and choose some upgraded lighting packages as well. Your wedding day arrives and you’re blindsided to learn that someone else is the DJ at your wedding, and you did not get your upgraded lighting either. You might even be shocked to see your DJ is not appropriately dressed. Sound familiar? I bet most of you know at least one newlywed couple who has gone through this. You also find out you only had the DJ for 2 hours and he’s threatening to leave now if you don’t fork over another $200 because your wedding is running over. But wait a minute, didn’t he verbally promise you 11 months ago that you had him for 3 or 4 hours?

DJ Lighting

One of our favourite lights to use here at Digital Memories is the Moonstar QTX. The light has no DMX ability but we use it as more an atmospheric light. It works well without haze or fog and lights a wide area. My only major complaint regarding the light is how short the power cable is. It’s only a couple of feet long which limits where you can place it. There are a couple of functions built into the device and all settings are controlled by switches and dials in the back. The red and green lasers can be turned off or on, or can be set to flash on and off. The blue haze can also be turned off or on independently from the red and green. All lights sped up or slowed down and the direction of the lights can be changed. More then any other light that we use, this one gets the most attention and comments. We get a lot of people wondering where the “cool” lights are coming from. I would definitely say this light is worth the investment!

Virtual DJ Pro

Here are Digital Memories we like to stay current with the latest software available for DJ’ing. One of my personal favorites to use is Virtual DJ. I have had zero errors with this software both at home testing it out and live on location! When dealing with computers and software, this has to be one of the most important aspects! No one wants the music to stop or skip right in the middle of a show. Nothing ruins an evening like having to wait to reset a computer or the software. Virtual DJ also has the ability to playback video as well as audio, so we are set for future opportunities here at Digital Memories! Without a doubt, I would have to recommend this software!

You can check out a demo of the Virtual DJ software here.

Latest DJ Technology

Digital Memories Disc Jockey Turntable The basic technology that a DJ uses remained fairly constant for many years. Even today many DJ’s still use vinyl. In recently years however, the amount of technology available to DJ’s has exploded. From digital music libraries filled with thousands of songs instantly accessible to simultaneously being able to mix and project video onto large screens.

Some new technology is a little out there as far as usability in real live situations are concerned.

I’m not sure if the below is actually real, but I know the technology out there exists and this one day may be possible. I’m not sure if any professional DJ’s would actually use this, but it looks like it would be fun to try out.
